Consequence - Q.U.E. Another E.N.S Queens Stand UP!!!

R.I.P DJ AM & His Last Tweet

50 Cent may rub some rappers in New York the wrong way at times, but the Queens-bred artist is generous as any entertainer when it comes to serving his community and fostering a direct relationship with fans.

This weekend was shaping up to be a display of his altruism: On Saturday he's busing in a number of residents from his former South Jamaica, Queens, neighborhood to New Jersey for a day at Six Flags Great Adventures amusement park, followed by a 50 performance.

But his "40 Day" event, also known as "Family Day," scheduled for Sunday has hit a major snag and is being postponed indefinitely, MTV News has learned.

The rapper's representative released this statement to MTV News exclusively regarding the festivities.

"The G-Unity Foundation and New York Restoration Project are deeply saddened and disappointed to learn that the permit for our upcoming Family Day event was not granted by the City," the statement read. "As a result, Family Day — scheduled for August 30th — has been postponed until further notice."

The project, sponsored by 50 and actress Bette Midler, drew the ire of the city when authorities discovered the rapper may perform at the event. The New York Post drummed up controversy around the event, reporting that locals were concerned about violence. The story cited a number of local sources, several of them anonymous, with one person saying "police brass were worried that a rival or punk out to make a name for himself would try to shoot Fitty during the performance."

The rapper spoke with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and assured officials he would not be performing. Bloomberg confirmed he talked with 50 and indicated the event would still take place. The two seemed to settle on a compromise that things could proceed if the rapper didn't perform.

G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo said the event would still take place despite the minor setback when he spoke to MTV News one day after Bloomberg told reporters he met with 50.

"The mayor was saying he spoke to 50 and he agreed that it wouldn't be a performance. Yo, I can't get at the mayor," Yayo said. "I don't even wanna say anything bad about him — I don't wanna get pulled over when I leave from outta here! But 50's big, 50s bigger than life. Rumor is he spent over half a million dollars on this."

Q-Tip, also a native of the neighborhood, recently rallied behind 50 and attacked Mayor Bloomberg's administration for having outdated views of New Yorkers. He said the move to strike down 50's performance hurts kid who may aspire to rise out of their conditions like the rapper has done. He called it a blow to the community's morale.

"I think that's a shot to morale," Tip said. "It's a shot to somebody's morale who's 15 or 16 years old. That's an impressionable soul who sees 50 Cent, how he's not able to see him perform. I think the [city's officials] are aware, but they think [50's] performance may cause rabble-rousing, or get people to act out. That's just an old way of thinking about folk, especially black folk. That's what it all boils down to, essentially."

50 Cent announced plans for his first annual 40 Day event last year. He partnered with Midler in November to unveil the Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson Community Garden. During that event he told the crowd about his plans for the summer. "We're gonna make it happen the way we been making it happen, right here," he said, referring to Family Day.

For now, though, the plans are on hold. 50's G-Unity Foundation expressed their disappointment over the news.

"Everyone in the community of Jamaica, Queens, especially the children, were looking forward to once again participating in this fun-filled, family-friendly event which was to promote community pride and provide adults and children alike with quality time together," they said.

50 Cent's '40 Day' Postponed Indefinitely Organizers were unable to obtain permits in time for event, scheduled for Sunday.

Q-Tips Slams Mayor Bloomberg over denying 50 Cent at Family Day event

Q-Tip has been a poignant voice in the hip-hop community for decades now. Lately, the outspoken Tip has several issues with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (such as his position on homelessness and his quality-of-life plan) and has been speaking out on Twitter, telling his fellow New Yorkers not to re-elect the mayor to a third term.

The Queens legend said he was disappointed that Bloomberg discouraged 50 Cent from performing at his own "40 Day" über-block party this Sunday (August 30) in Queens. "[Bloomberg is] not right for the spirit of the city," Tip told Sway earlier this week. "50 Cent is a success story we all should applaud. However you feel about him, you can't deny him. He had something going on in his old neighborhood — our old neighborhood, because I grew up there too. He wanted to perform there. He can have the benefit but he can't perform."

The event, also called "Family Day," is a free gathering of people in the neighborhood, taking place outside of the "40 Projects," a.k.a. the South Jamaica Houses development. According to 50 and G-Unit, there will be music, plenty of food and many of Fif's big-name celebrity friends mingling with the folks. The party is sponsored by Bette Midler's New York Restoration Project and 50's G-Unity Foundation.

When the New York Post (GOSSIP RAG) published a (inaccurate) story last week saying that the police were worried about violence breaking out if 50 staged a surprise performance at the party, the mayor himself responded, saying Fif assured him that he wouldn't perform.

"I think that's a shot to morale," he continued. "It's a shot to somebody's morale, who's 15 or 16 years old. That's an impressionable soul who sees 50 Cent, how he's not able to see him perform in a way. I think the [city's officials] are aware, but they think [50's] performance may cause rabble-rousing, or get people to act out. That's just an old way of thinking about folk, especially black folk. That's what it all boils down to, essentially."

My thoughts for what it's worth: I personally will never purchase another NY Post again EVER. They NEVER fact check. They are as accurate as the ENQUIRER. I blame them for turning this into a bigger issue! BAN THE POST!

Chicago Rapper Bump J Accepts Plea Deal For His Part In Bank Robbery

The Summer of 2009 will go down in Hip-Hop history as one of the most oppressive summers to date. Not in the literal sense of the word, Hip-Hop artists are seemingly being hunted down and prosecuted with ferocity unseen before in the American justice system, mainly due to their own ignorance and ill-advised decisions.

From C-Murder and Lil' Boosie to throwback legends Coolio and Willie D, it would seem that the stars have aligned and solar flares are disrupting the thought process of some of the game's best and brightest talent, with even those who have recently come into commercial success choosing to involve themselves in idiotic endeavors. Terrance Boykin is a part of the latter group.

Known to the world as Bump J, Boykin reached the early commercial success with his hit “Move Around,” finding more acclaim when the song was chosen to be featured in one of McDonald's nationally aired commercials, yet that taste of success was not enough to keep the burgeoning star from getting into trouble. J was arrested by federal officials for participating in the robbery of a Chicago-area bank nearly two years ago.

Having confessed to being involved in the heist, which netted over $100,000, - 2005's “Best Midwest Mixtape” recipient has moved to save his self from what would have been a painful prison sentence by agreeing to a plea deal. As decreed by federal guidelines, the rapper was only facing between 37 to 46 months in prison but the penalty for “menacing” a bank employee, which he also admitted to, came with a mandatory life sentence. Under the deal reached, Bump would still have to serve a minimum of seven years behind bars, the consequence of him having brandished a firearm during a crime of violence. A sad sidestep to what was once a promising career.

Discovered by Xtreme Beats of Chicago music fame, Bump was introduced to Phil Edwards, Kanye West's former manager. Soon after the Chicago native found his way to Atlantic Records, where a record deal was offered and quickly signed by the young artist. After releasing several mixtapes, including the acclaimed Chicagorilla with DJ Drama, Boykin returned to life in the streets and fast money after his debut album entitled Nothing to Lose was forcefully shelved. Bump also recorded with the late legendary Rick James on the song "Lock Me Down." Scheduled to appear on his shelved project, the track was produced by Kanye.

Terrance “Bump J” Boykin is set to appear in front of Judge Charles R. Norgle on the first of September.
I guess he felt that he had nothing to lose. Another rappin' fool bites the dust. R.I.P to what little was left of Bump J's career…

Police Find Heroin, Weed In Jadakiss’ Yonkers Apartment

BallerStatus.com -- Ooops ... police raided an apartment in Yonkers, New York this week, and found heroin, marijuana and lots of cash. The home was leased to rapper Jadakiss.

According to the Lower Hudson Journal, the rapper (real name: Jason Phillips) was not at the apartment at the time of the police executed search warrant, and is not wanted at this time, police said.

During the search, police seized 5 grams of heroin, 6.5 pounds of marijuana and $40,000 in cash.

Two men were arrested though -- Alberto Lajara, 25, and Gabriel R. Henriquez, 39. However, their relationship to Jada was not known at press time.

The warrant was issued following a Friday arrest of the two men, in which their vehicle was stopped and police detected marijuana in the vehicle.

Lajara was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct, while Henriquez was hit with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and second-degree assault, both felonies, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.

After further investigation, a search warrant was issued, which lead them to Jadakiss' apartment.

Jada, and/or his label, could not be reached for comment at press time.
